11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (NIV)
This glorious passage of scripture, Titus 2:11-14, is doctrinal and motivational in purpose.
A. God’s Grace is Definite
“For the grace of God … has appeared to all men”
Grace appeared historically, personally, visibly, and universally when Jesus entered our world
Grace is not a philosophy or a religion, grace is found in a person and in a relationship with Him.
B. God’s Grace is Dynamic
For the grace of God that brings salvation …”
Grace is powerfully “saving”
(See. Titus 3:3-7)
A. What to Leave (A Life of Separation)
“Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should …” (2:12a).
B. How to Live (A Life of Dedication)
1. “We should live soberly.”
2. “We should live righteously.”
3. “We should live godly lives.”
C. Where to Look (A Life of Expectation)
“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2:13)
Set apart for consecrated service and activity
A. By God Himself
“our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus;”
B. At Great Cost
“who gave Himself for us” (14)
involving our Redemption
involving our Purification
“that He might redeem us from every lawless deed”
“and purify for Himself…..”
C. For a Purpose
“That He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
A Special People “His Own Special People”
A Zealous People “Zealous for Good Work
